Other academic journals
As well as the Society's official journal, Hydrology Research: an International Journal , there are many other academic journals that publish peer-reviewed papers on hydrological science:
Hydrological Sciences Journal http://iahs.info
The journal of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences, founded in 1922, is published bi-monthly with approximately ten papers in each issue (in English or French), with occasional Special Issues on specific topics. The Association's hydrological remit includes surface water, groundwater, continental erosion, snow and ice, water quality, water resources systems, remote sensing, atmosphere–soil–vegetation relations, and tracers.
Hydrology and Earth System Sciences www.hydrology-and-earth-system-sciences.net
Hydrology and Earth System Sciences (HESS) is an international two-stage open access journal for the publication of original research in hydrology, placed within a holistic Earth System Science context. The discussion and peer-review of submitted papers are handled in the open access discussion journal HESSD: final papers, upon acceptance, appear in HESS. This journal encourages and supports fundamental and applied research that seeks to understand the interactions between water, earth, ecosystems and man. 12 issues a year.
Journal of Hydrology www.elsevier.com/locate/jhydrol
The Journal of Hydrology publishes original research papers and comprehensive reviews in all the subfields of the hydrological sciences. These comprise (but are not limited to) the physical, chemical, biogeochemical, stochastic and systems aspects of surface and groundwater hydrology, hydrometeorology and hydrogeology. Relevant topics in related disciplines such as climatology, water resource systems, hydraulics, agrohydrology, geomorphology, soil science, instrumentation and remote sensing, civil and environmental engineering are also included. Papers have empirical, theoretical and applied orientations. 64 issues per year.
Water and Environment Journal www.ciwem.org
The journal of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management, formerly published in-house but now published by Blackwells on behalf of the Institution. It deals with worldwide aspects of the water cycle and environmental matters, including management of solid and hazardous wastes, control of air pollution, and environmental conservation. It covers a range of interests including hydrology, sediments, air pollution, climate change, sustainable development, water and wastewater treatment, and legislation. Operational, scientific, technical and research papers are welcomed; short papers (1500 to 2500 words), as well as full-length papers (up to 5000 words), are encouraged. Four issues a year: March, June, September and December.
Journal of Flood Risk Management http://www.ciwem.org/publications/flood//
A new, online-only global journal from CIWEM through Wiley-Blackwell to provide an international platform for knowledge and information sharing in all areas relating to flood risk management. Its explicit aim is to disseminate ideas across the range of disciplines where flood related research is carried out. Four issues per year, with content ranging from leading edge academic papers to the practical implementation of real projects.
Water Resources Research www.agu.org/journals/wr
Published by the American Geophysical Union, this is an interdisciplinary journal integrating research in the social and natural sciences of water. It contains original contributions in hydrology, in the physical, chemical, and biological sciences, and in the social and policy sciences, including economics, systems analysis, sociology and law. 12 issues per year.
Water Research http://www.elsevier.com/
An interdisciplinary journal integrating research in the social and natural sciences of water. Contains original contributions on hydrology, physical, chemical, and biological sciences, social and policy sciences, including economics, systems analysis, sociology and law. 20 issues per year.
Hydrological Processes www.hydrologicalprocesses.com
Published by John Wiley & Sons, this is an international journal focusing on the physical, biogeochemical, mathematical and methodological aspects of hydrological processes together with research on instrumentation and techniques. The journal also publishes several issues annually that relate to themes emerging from conferences, hydrological science societies and key research topics identified by editorial board members. HP welcomes the submission of comment/reply on previously published papers, preferably as a short paper not exceeding 2000 words and relating to papers previously published in the journal. 26 issues per year.
Journal of Hydrologic Engineering www.pubs.asce.org/
journals/hydrologic Published bimonthly by ASCE, this journal aims to disseminate information on the development of new hydrological methods, theories and applications to current engineering problems. Papers are published on analytical, numerical and experimental methods for the investigation and modelling of hydrological processes.
Water Management www.thomastelford.com/journals
The Proceedings of ICE Water Management, aims to publish authoritative, stimulating and perceptive papers of use to practitioners (including consultants, contractors, managers and planners) and applied researchers. Articles include applied fluid mechanics and water (including supply, treatment and sewerage) and river engineering, together with the increasingly important fields of wetland and catchment management, groundwater and contaminated land, waterfront development and urban regeneration. There is also scope for hydroinformatics tools, risk and uncertainty methods, and environmental, social and economic issues relating to sustainable development. Published 6 times per year.
