
BHS 2008

The 10th National BHS symposium returns to Exeter this September, ten years after the international conference was held there, for an event that brings together hydrologists, water engineers and those working in related fields in the UK and around the world, to discuss topical issues in hydrology, present their latest research, and debate new hypotheses and technologies.

New international journal - Hydrology Research

Hydrology Research has been adopted as the official journal of the British Hydrological Society.
This follows successful negotiations with the Nordic Association for Hydrology who have kindly agreed that BHS should join with them in the sponsorship of a new publication Hydrology Research to supersede Nordic Hydrology, published by IWA Publications.

Peter Wolf Young Hydrologists Symposium a great success

The Peter Wolf Young Hydrologists Symposium held on 28 & 29 June was a huge success, with 41 delegates attending, 12 presentations and 20 posters.
Postgraduate students and young working hydrologists attended in equal numbers. The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all and we have received some encouraging and positive feedback.

'Father of British Hydrology' - link to Times obituary

Professor Peter Wolf (President of BHS from 1987 to 1989) sadly and unexpectedly died in October. See also The Times obituary here.
He set up the Engineering Hydrology MSc course at Imperial College, carried out the hydrological analysis of the disastrous Lynmouth flood of 1953, helped establish flood studies research at the Institute of Hydrology and was one of the inspirations in settign up BHS in the 1980s - he can indeed be considered the father of British hydrology.
His continuing interest in supporting young hydrologists is recognised in the name of our annual "Peter Wolf Young Hydrologists Symposium".
